Construction Updates
- River’s Edge: Landscaping and irrigation are currently underway, and you can see progress through the fences. We’re waiting on scaffolding to be set up for the netting installation, with fabrication of the netting material happening off-site. The project, including two additional monkey habitats, is fully funded and progressing well. The waterfall is expected to be completed by the end of winter, and the Primate Trails/Otter habitat should be finished by spring. Completion dates for the additional primate habitats and interpretive graphics are still to be determined.
- Goat Encounters: A new handwashing station has been ordered, and installation is in progress. Staff training for public interactions is complete, and in-yard encounters will begin shortly. Keep an eye out for announcements on our website.
- Chinese Alligator Exhibit: The front railing is nearing completion, and we’re currently installing the remaining fencing and ensuring the water system is operational. The building has been fully painted, and we’re now awaiting the permit to bring in the alligators. A completion date is still pending.
- Rain Garden: The project is halfway complete, with all rainwater tanks installed and underground piping finished. The next phase involves the landscaping contractor.
- Monkey Row: The focus right now is on removing existing landscapes to make way for the new habitats. We’ve already removed four of the original habitats and plan to take down three more, for a total of seven. Significant modifications are underway for the Spider Monkey and Gibbon habitats, with ongoing relocation and habitat enhancements continuing into the new year.
- Pathways Project: We are revisiting bids for construction and plan to begin work on the pathways in the spring.
- Tree Trimming: Tree trimming is currently taking place at the north end of the Zoo, near the CET. As part of a four-year tree risk assessment, a certified arborist is inspecting all trees for health concerns. Necessary treatments or removals will be made to mitigate risks, particularly regarding large branches that could pose a hazard.
