The Santa Ana Zoo continues to develop an on-site program whose purpose is to promote conservation as a lifestyle by protecting natural resources. It serves as a model for others to follow. The approach involves four main objectives:
- Reduce the resources used
- Recycle when feasible
- Use recycled products when possible
- Promote a sustainable lifestyle
You'll be noticing lots of changes around the Zoo such as planting drought-tolerant plants, having biodegradable soaps, prohibiting the use of wood cut from old-growth forests or tropical rain forests, providing glass/plastic/aluminum recycling receptacles for the public, separating green waste for composting, having recycled plates and cups, waterless urinals, automated faucets and energy-saving hand dryers and utilizing "green" practices in facility design and construction. Of course, our guidelines provide that no activity compromises animal, public or employee safety.
These "green" practices include striving to reduce construction waste and utilizing recycled materials. We hope you'll join us in our efforts to "go green!"
